Ultraviolet Sensors and Meters

This product measures the total ultraviolet radiation between 250 and 400 nanometers, in µmol m-2 s-1.

CONVERSION FACTORS

Models with a handheld meter display UV radiation in µmol m-2 s-1.

Sensors connect to a datalogger or voltmeter. The sensor uses a photodiode to yield a mV output. This output is multiplied by a conversion factor to yield UV radiation in units of µmol m-2 s-1. The calibration factor is approximately 6.5 (0.15 mV per µmol m-2 s-1), but is sensor specific.

Radiation can be expressed in units of photon flux (µmol m-2 s-1) or energy flux (W m-2). While UV sensors and meters are calibrated in units of photon flux, the conversion to energy flux can be performed in the following spreadsheet:
